Negativity is a reality of life. In one time or another we all have negativity in ourselves in varying degrees. Everyone has to face the fact that some things are just inevitable, like difficult people, difficult situations, the list goes on. Psychologists has a name for remembering negative situations over positive ones and they call it "Negativity Bias". In this sense people tend to remember bad memories than good ones. Negativity is basically wired into the human brain from the beginning of time, since it is necessary for survival. People in the past or the start of civilizations continually look out and be defensive for danger to ensure their survival. However in present days, there is unlikely more danger around us thus it is unnecessary to anticipate negative things will come our way. Instead cultivating positive outlook is more vital for our survival nowadays. Since our brain is more wired to negative events in our life, it must be somewhat hard work to make our brain remember the positive experiences. One of the best way to do this is to appreciate every good things that come our way. Below are some extra points on how to survive the negativity that almost hinder us in achieving our own total happiness and quality of life we always long for:
1) Check opportunities in every problem. Sometimes problems are just opportunities for change or improvement.
2) Absorb positive experiences for quite sometime. Celebrating and repeating them to yourself helps to keep it in the long term memory.
3) Do little positive things to the people around you several times a day. A little extra kindness will go a long way.
4) Have a personal "treasure" of positive meditations that work for you. A prayer or favorite quotes that lifts yourself up whenever negative thoughts creep in.
5) Overlook negative comments or actions from other people. Remember that they too are struggling against negativity like you.
6) Make a list of the things you are thankful for. Keeping a journal will help you remember the good things to be thankful about.
7) Keep a reminder of how awesome you are. A good photo of you at your desk, a certificate of appreciation hanged on your wall, or anything that would bring you myriads of wonderful feelings abut yourself.
8) Keep your responsibilities in mind. There's nothing as positive as keeping and fulfilling responsibilities you need to do and deliver.
9) Be optimistic that everything you do will have a positive output. Realistic optimism is necessary in every endeavor.
10) Trust that everything around you supports you to achieve what you want. Everything and everyone around you are working together to bring you the things you need and want in your life.
