“If you want to live a happy life, tie it to a goal, not to people or things.” -Albert Einstein

It's freshly 2015! the time has arrived when we have to re-evaluate our life's priorities and set new goals. Looking back in the past year, what we're the priorities we were working on? Most of them were reflections to improve good habits i suppose that will lead to a personal breakthrough. Now, it's time to reinforce our ideal vision of ourselves and our foreseen accomplishments. We can use the new year to re-prioritize and flush out the old habits and thoughts.

Before going through the guidelines, let's take a look at our life's different aspects: Personal Life, Fitness & Health, Relationships, Personal Finance, & Work/Career. What do we want to improve across these channels? Way back in 2011 I started blogging to keep a journal of my personal development and aspirations. Writing down what exactly I want has helped me in a lot of ways to keep track of my personal path. Writing guidelines for myself, brought about the idea of sharing the resources.

Too many people just drift around and just go with the flow without setting any goals to attain in their life. This is sad but very true, that you can only go higher as much as the goals you have set and worked out for yourself. I find it a good thing to realize that so many good fellows out there are aware of this personal development tool, I can only appreciate and learn from these people.

One we finally set goal, our mind works day and night on the ways on how we can attain them. Creating a vivid picture in our imagination will visualize the reality of the things we are aspiring for. Writing down priorities and goals in every aspect of our life definitely is just the starting point. For example under the 'personal life' you may want to lessen stress, you may write solutions that are fun to combat stress. Ideally there is a deep rooted reason for writing down goals as they will create a clear vision of what you want to achieve thus maintaining your daily habits to bring them about.

Setting personal priorities and goals is a common practice among all successful people we may know. Regardless of the industry they may be involved in. Goal setting and working hard to attain them sets the mark between successful and the "not-so-successful' at any level you may interpret that since success means different things to different people at different time. It is basically subjective yet one underlying deciding factor is that success makes us feel accomplished at the end of the race.

I've listed below some guidelines from personal experiences that may help you map out the plans you have in the coming year.

  1. Define your priorities
  2. Ditch old thoughts and habits that don't help you move ahead.
  3. Set an achievable goals. Break them down to daily tasks.
  4. Avoid vague terms and jargon in writing your goals.
  5. Always keep the big picture in mind.
  6. Maintain a daily session for personal goal setting and evaluation.
  7. Always think of the long term impact of your goals.
  8. Celebrate small victories along the way and invite me for celebrations :)
