Being in Oman since 2008, all I could say is, Oman is a very peaceful progressing country. Buildings are rising everyday, infrastructures and roads continuously develop. Businesses are booming, all you can just find is a relax economy. Way of life has been so laid back with no pressure and rush. Day-to-day living is just a breeze compare to that of the way back home. Omani people are just as warm as their country, they have increased sense of tolerance of other cultures. They do not mind mixing and sharing their environment with other nationalities with different cultures so different to what they have. Instead they are so proud to sharing their country to us, expats.
As they celebrate their 44th National Day, one can feel a very high sense of nationalism from every nook and corner of Oman. All cars waving their flags, companies decorating their offices with their colors, houses hanging flags, balloons, banners and streets filled with lightnings signifying far another milestone their country and its people has achieved.
As an expat worker in Oman, I enjoy the life of solitude, peace and surviving on my own two feet. There are many things being alone have taught me overtime. I come to know of things that I don't know I am capable of before. Flying to Oman for the first time, had me feeling I was being thrown into the unknown, that all I could do is to be aware of my new environment and learn all I could as fast as I can. The feeling of uncertainty, fear over heard news from the middle east over female's workers' plight. Having the feeling of cynicism, I managed to navigate every social situation I was thrown into. Over-trusting will not gain me anything. Looking at every angle of the situation, sensing the motives, and weighing overall judgment will go a long way.
I thank this country for the good things, it brought to my life. I was able to prove to myself that I can make it in life through securing a job in this beautifully landscaped place. I was able to exist will less pressures on the people who care for me. I was able to care for myself, in this highly safe environment. Thriving as a lone lady in a foreign land is a challenge most of my age face and this country has just proved that it is not much of a challenge after all. Rather it is an adventure in itself that a lady like me could treasure for a lifetime.
Oman has provided various platforms to express myself creatively, professionally and personally. I ventured myself into several job positions, till I realize that there is nothing you cannot learn except if it is about "rocket science". I pride myself for being a quick learner. Outperforming others is my passion ;)
Being a Computer Engineer, as my professional qualifications, I realize that having analytic thinking can prove to be a versatile talent. My job started as faculty coordinator, training supervisor, database administrator, and cost engineer. As random as it may seem, there is only one underlying ground beneath all, and that is they all require analytic and quick learning ability that able to bring out what is required at the moment with an eye exploring potential development.
I thank this country for all the opportunities it brought me professionally; the experiences that served as the training ground that gives me endless opportunities in the future, the things I learned, every people who have helped me along the way. Too many of them I can't remember all, but in one time or another I was very grateful with all my heart.
On it's 44th national day celebration, I wish all its people more success and it's leader good health and long life!!!
