The Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque is one of the proud landmark of Oman; one of the most visited tourist attraction and one of the most extravagant and poised modern mosques around the world. This majestic pride of Oman took six years to build and finally opened in 2001. It features a unique combination of Islamic, Middle Eastern, and Omani architecture design and charmed with one of the world’s largest handmade prayer carpet from Persia and beautiful Italian chandeliers.

Grand mosque is undoubtedly the largest mosque in the country that can house 20,000 people at the same prayer time. It is open for visitors all days of the week except Friday which is their prayer day, thus visitors aren't allowed. Visit hours are from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm and from 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm.

Hanging at the center of the ceiling is its large Italian-made chandelier which definitely captures the attention of its visitors.

The author has been long time in Oman but this is quietly the first time to visit the mosque inside and found out that it is grandiose inside indeed as its outer beauty suggest.

Visiting the Grand Mosque requires conservative clothing to respect the religious tradition. Ladies must cover the hair, shoulders and arms to adhere to their ladies' dressing culture.

If you plan to travel to Oman and have a Muscat tour, it is a no-brainer to include Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque in your itinerary.
